We interviewed Krishen Iyer an online Founder of Quick Link Marketing, now known as Managed Benefits DBA Direct Help Marketing. Here is a few things we learned before we dig into the Q and A. Krishen Iyer has earned a professional reputation for his unique expertise in several critical areas of specialization, including technical development, online marketing, and client interfacing, among countless others. Krishen, a graduate of San Diego State University, is principally involved in much of the business's core focus areas, including, of course, the company's services aimed at fostering connections between lead-generation companies and firms seeking a specific kind of marketing solution. He has a heavy background in insurance, insurance products, distribution, marketing and advertising.

How did you get started in this business? What inspired you to start this business?
Quick Link Marketing (Managed Benefits) is genuinely unique in its approach to fostering connections between lead-generation companies and companies seeking effective marketing solutions, and I felt my professional skill set was uniquely suited for the responsibilities required of an online partner with the companies that seek to have a marketing partnership with my new company.
How do you make money?
We provide a necessary service that was not previously available to lead-generation companies or the firms most in need of the assistance of such companies. We generate our revenue by fostering connections between lead-generation companies and the firms we believe stand to benefit most from the specific kind of marketing solutions provided by the right lead-generation company. We also offer high contracts to sales associates and agents alike to work underneath us in an insurance capacity while being marketing buyers. It is truly a one stop shop.
How long did it take for you to become profitable?
To the best of my recollection, Quick Link Marketing (Managed Benefits) became profitable ahead of schedule, although that schedule was not exactly aggressive by most standards. I believe the goal was no more than 12 months, but we were profitable before that.
When you were starting out, was there ever a time you doubted it would work? If so, how did you handle that?
No doubts. Can't have any doubts or you will never go out and do it. But caution is a good practice.
How did you get your first customer?
We have many and getting the first came before the company was even launched.
What is one marketing strategy (other than referrals) that you're using that works really well to generate new business?
We tend to rely on a diversified approach to marketing strategies, but I believe that the use of robust data analytics has added a tremendous amount of efficiency to our strategies, which obviously has improved our ability to generate new business through marketing. Plus we tap into companies that have established publishers to make sure we blend campaigns well. The issues with most companies is that they do not screen the publishers well and then you end up with prospects from one publisher who sold that information to 10 places. This is a problem for the customer as well as the lead company. This is what I am trying to avoid.
What is the toughest decision you've had to make in the last few months?
With the diverse responsibilities associated with my position, the toughest decisions I make each day primarily relate to time management above all else.
What do you think it is that makes you successful?
That is tough. I guess I'm naturally inquisitive and genuinely interested in learning about almost any subject, and this has helped me really sharpen my skills as a communicator within all kinds of professional settings. Plus you have to remember what obstacles you face today will be gone tomorrow. And each one helps you to maneuver around the next. Also, the guys that try and focus on all the things that make them look successful often times are either at the brink of losing their success or they will never get there. You have to be focused on core business principles and live for the business while it grows. I've learned that lesson. I think I have also been humbled a few times in my life and staying humble is key to staying successful. Remember the guy in the white shirt and flip flops might not be a bum. Maybe he just learned that low key and humble works better in business. I've got a poster that says stay humble - Stay hungry. I like that saying.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
There are quite a few satisfying moments I've experienced over the years, but perhaps the most gratifying aspect of my career is the fact that my success has given me the opportunity to help others in the local community as well as in places all over the world. We have had call centers overseas, and centers in a number of states in the U.S.. Also the track record of growth on new company launches has become a trend now which is an accomplishment because that is a learned business trait that is ingrained in me and took me many failures to understand how to do this over and over. Sorry for the round about answer there but that is as close as I could get.
What does the future hold for your business? What are you most excited about?
I'm most excited about the continued advance of the information age, particularly since our company is so adept at using the available information to improve the services we provide to our clients. I look up to Amazon as a company although we are nothing close in comparison , like not even the same planet but I like it because Jeff Bezos conquered so many different business's well inside one business. I just think its something all entrepreneurs should aspire to. At least in his was of thinking outside the box. And not following the herd. I hate the herd mentality.
What business books have inspired you?
I'm boring. I like "The New Buffetology". I like Warren Buffet. I like investing. I think stories of real things and real triumphs are the best. I particularly like stories of defeat and success wrapped in one. Because those two things need one and other. And because it makes a good book.
What is a recent purchase you have made that's helped with your business?
I recently made a huge investment in another company. An insurance brokerage who will be our biggest buyer. Its most likely not what your thinking by way an answer. But I am trying to invest in companies right now to boost our own company revenue.
